as in the subject, using pybitmessage 0.3.0 and xfce4-panel 4.10.1 the tray icon is empty
on the console pybitmessage says:
Listening for incoming connections.
ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for MessagingMenu
QGtkStyle was unable to detect the current GTK+ theme.
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile

Ah. The Messaging Menu is only really supposed to be active in the vanilla (Unity) version of Ubuntu, so probably the isUbuntu function needs some improvement.
Are you on Xubuntu ?
I also can not see the tray icon (blank area as shown in ss). Also I get balloons when not minimized.
Server 2008.
No, im on Archlinux.
Has the recent icon change altered the situation at all?
I've just moved the icons to a Qt resources file which is how they were stored up through Bitmessage version 0.2.8. Perhaps it will work now.
oh yes, indeed.
now its fixed. i tried after both of those updates. this one did it.
pacman says it is 7e9ac11-1 now. about says its 0.3.1
